Skype for business cloud connector edition

By now CloudPBX if a familiar term from Microsoft.
When it comes to how to enable PSTN calling i found there was an alternative to enable an
on-premise S4B/Lync topology.
I see there is now a deployment called "Cloud connector".
After some googling i found little about this "role" but Microsoft on Yammer is always helpful and explained the concept behind this.
Cloud Connector consists actually of four prepared VM's with roles for:

  • Edge
  • Mediation
  • CMS
  • AD
These can be downloaded here: https://www.skypepreview.com/

It's an "Out-Of-The-Box" solution.
When the VM's are downloaded you configure them through a few config files.
Planning for Cloud Connector: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt605227.aspx
Then they are ready to deploy.

I have not had the chance to test this yet but if anyone has, feel free to comment on your experience.

UPDATE from MS:
Cloud Connector Edition (aka MinTop) did not become available on December 1st and currently is in customer validation with our early adopter program and will be available in the coming months. Please note that On-premises PSTN Connectivity using Skype for Business Server remains unaffected and became available as scheduled with Cloud PBX on 12/1.

We understand this was a late breaking change and don't take this activity lightly. The core reason here is two-fold - first, we have taken a change to the product to reduce the footprint from two physical servers to one. Second, there's a need for additional validation work prior to general availability. We are very excited for this deployment option to be available for customers and want to make sure it's both of the highest quality and has the right capabilities to start.

This means that currently customers will not be able to get Cloud Connector. After proceeding through customer validation we expect that customers will be able to download a preview of Cloud Connector, but the timing for this is not confirmed.

In the meantime, customers can use their a new or existing server deployment, either an SE or EE, to configure on-premises PSTN Connectivity. The documentation for both planning and deployment this is available on TechNet.

UPDATE!
The Cloud Connector is now GA.
You can download the Cloud Connector from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51693
